Summary Judgement
On June 30, 2010, at 9:00 a.m., there will be a Summary Judgement Hearing at the Travis County Court House, 1000 Guadalupe St., Austin, TX.
It is very important for you to attend this hearing! We need to have the court room full of horse owners that believe they have the right to choose the care of their horses.
The State Vet Board did not follow administrative procedures for rule changing when they cancelled the Public Hearing in April of 2007…and now, this has become our “smoking gun”. This is why it is important for the court room to be full to show the judge AND the Vet Board that you want to be heard!
This fight is NOT over, but a victory at this hearing will be a major step! If you feel strongly about this, please attend!
Please pass this message onto others that you think feel as strongly as YOU do.
Thank you,
Carl Mitz
The Fight in Texas…
Dewey Helmcamp is the Executive Director of The Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. He is the public face of the TSVMBE. The following are quotations he has made on the record about equine dentistry in Texas.
The TSBVME and Dewey
Pictured here is Dewey Helmcamp being approached by Lee McGrath of the Institute for Justice. There were certain inconsistencies in Mr. Helmcamp’s testimony before the Texas State House of Representatives Africulture Committee concerning the negotiations between representatives of the TSBVME and Mr. Mitz. The misspoken testimony possibly biased the eventual decision of the committee. Mr. Helmcamp did not seem very enthusiastic when Mr. McGrath pointed out the inconsistencies. There’s even a short paper trail – when he was asked to correct the problem, Dewey replied that Mitz’s attorneys ought to take it up with the Committee directly.
It’s just ugly…
In an effort to somehow galvanize public and political opinion against a group of cowboys who’ve quietly plied their trade for centuries, the a group of Oklahoma veterinarians and legislators tried their damnedest to connect equine dentistry to the illicit drug trade and abortion. (I know, seems a stretch even when I leave good sense, intelligence and whatever modicum of good taste I have at the door.)
Vets vs Non-Veterinary Practitioners
Vets vs. Non-Veterinary Practitioners
Will Phillips, Executive Director, International Association of Equine Dentistry
Published in the Miniature Horse Showcase
In 2007, Carl Mitz, a non-veterinary equine dental practitioner with over 30 years experience, was issued a cease and desist order from the State of Texas. They claim he practiced veterinary medicine. Miniature horse owners use the services of Carl Mitz throughout the world. Carl’s research and experience is an asset utilized by the horse community, veterinarians, and students around the world. He’s a co-author of Dr. Tom Allen’s Manual of Equine Dentistry. The TSBVME has yet to produce a single consumer complaint against Carl. They arbitrarily found him through a Google search of questionable legality.
